I am in my fourth year of guitar teaching and I teach all ages, all abilities and most styles.

Although completely self-taught (I had ten piano lessons as a child), I have a very sound theoretical knowledge which informs my teaching and playing. In my experience guitar players learn most, not from books but, by playing with other guitar players. I perform the function of the other guitar player in my teaching.

With beginners I try to let them see how much fun guitar playing can be by giving them simple tunes or songs to play while, at the same time, trying to develop their chord libraries and rhythmic skills. With intermediate players I try to help them develop their playing by illustrating achievable skills and techniques.

Lessons are currently priced at £16 per hour or £10 per half hour at my home.

I give group lessons once a week at Merlin Music in Melrose.
